Edward Franklin Fitzgerald was born in Lewiston, Maine, on 13 February 1880 to Daniel S. and Celinda A. (Stebbins) Fitzgerald. Daniel was a military veteran, a firefighter, and very active in city politics, having served multiple terms on Lewiston's City Council as an alderman for the 4th and 5th Wards.
The 1880 census shows the Fitzgerald family living on Lincoln Street in Lewiston and Edward was just 4 months old. See lines 33–36 in the image below:
In 1891, Edward's much-older brother, Fred B. Fitzgerald, died on 31 March 1891 at roughly the age of 24. I can't find an obituary, death record, or gravestone for Fred. All I've seen are two mentions in the newspaper that indicated that he was a firefighter and that his funeral was held on 2 April 1891, during which they rang the fire bells for him.
The 1900 census shows the Fitzgeralds living on Oxford Street in Lewiston. They were residing in housing owned by and across the street from Continental Mill, where Daniel was employed as a painter and where Edward would soon be employed after finishing his third year of high school. See lines 92–94 in the image below:
On 27 November 1901, Edward married Aimee Nora Goodhue in Auburn, Maine. Here's their marriage record:
A mention of the wedding was published in the newspaper the following day:
Edward's father, Daniel S. Fitzgerald, passed away on 27 July 1904.
The 1910 census of Auburn shows Edward and Aimee living in an apartment at 29 School Street in Auburn, Maine. Edward was working at a shoe factory, which would be his occupation going forward, too. The couple is spread over the two following pages, with Edward on the last line in the first image and Aimee on the top line of the following image:
The next two years were difficult ones for Edward. His mother, Celinda A. (Stebbins) Fitzgerald, passed away on 24 November 1911 at the age of 71 after a two-week bout of pneumonia. The following year, his only child — Carlton Edward Fitzgerald — was stillborn on 14 December 1912.
In September 1918, Edward registered for the World War I Draft. I am not sure, but it looks like he was disqualified due to missing a finger:
The Fitzgeralds were living at 27 Orchard Street in Auburn by 1920, as shown on lines 98 and 99 in the following census image:
Edward and Aimee were still living at 27 Orchard Street in 1930. See lines 26 and 27 below:
Here's the 1940 Census showing the couple still residing at 27 Orchard Street in Auburn on lines 18 and 19:
1950 was the final census appearance for both of the Fitzgeralds. See lines 20 and 21 in the images below:
Aimee passed away on 17 August 1955 and Edward followed her less than a year later on 1 May 1956. He was 76 years old. His obituary and funeral notice follow:
I do not think that Edward and Aimee (nor baby Carlton) have stones in Oak Hill Cemetery. They were supposed to have been buried with Aimee's parents, but I see no sign of another stone on that lot.
